I enjoy reading other people’s Substacks and have been toying with the idea of starting my own, so: here we are. I can't promise that this newsletter will be monthly, but maybe I'll surprise myself, and at the very least I'm going to aim for quarterly. That said, I will keep the posts free for subscribers unless/until I can make this more consistent. I'm in a life moment where I'm generally overwhelmed by lack of time (mainly because I’m on contract for a new novel and can never find enough writing hours), so starting a newsletter seems like a questionable endeavor at this particular juncture. Nonetheless, welcome. If not now, when?
I’m drawn to the concept of having a place where I can write in a more casual and intimate format, and hopefully engage with readers. Here on Substack, I plan to write about a range of topics—everything from writing process and ideation to motherhood and the enigmatic pursuit of balance. I’ll also use this space to share recommendations (books and otherwise).
This week, I'm brainstorming in advance of what is shaping up to be a heavy revision of my work in progress. So far, Book 5 has given me a run for my money and I’ve written an essay (a personal one) that touches more on this. I’ll share that here next week.
In the meantime, here’s a rec for you:
The Tell by Amy Griffin is a powerful and emotional memoir that truly reads like a thriller. I saw Amy speak at an event last week and she’s a real force—I left inspired by her vulnerability. I tore through her book in a couple of days and think it’s one that every woman should read. It would also make for a good book club pick—there’s a lot to discuss.
Thanks for being here. Have a glorious weekend, and happy SPRING!
